Squirrelmail returns the error: Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:143

Webmail – Squirrelmail returns the error:
Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:143 (Connection refused) in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/squirrelmail/plugins/login_auth/functions.php on line 129

The above given error message usually occurs when you are trying to access email accounts in Squirrelmail. Given below are the steps to resolve the issue.

1. Ensure that you are using correct email account name and password.

2. Ensure that an entry for the domain is present in /etc/userdomains.

3. Depending on the mail server used by the domain, an entry for the domain should be present in “/etc/localdomains” or “/etc/remotedomains”.

If a domain is using local mail server, an entry should be present in “/etc/localdomains”. If a domain is using remote mail server, an entry should be present in “/etc/remotedomains”.

4. Ensure POP3 and IMAP services are enabled. This can be checked as follows:

Either “Courier” or “Dovecot” should be enabled.
